The reality is that Hell exist in carnal, tactile, real experience. God spoke things into existence, which is to say that spiritual realities are what make the tangible ones we experience real. Let there be light and there was light is not the same as seeing the light first and naming it after the fact. All things are spiritually discerned if you consider this fact.
A microwave oven, fast food, a light switch, anything that provides instant gratification is spiritually discerned because it works against your faith. If your not accustomed to waiting, how can you wait in God who is not a microwave?
In this regard we must seek out the spiritual implication of a thing to understand its impact on the carnal world.
In the King James we find 23 accounts of Hell
This account speak to the Lake of Fire which Hell will be deposited into.
- Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
- Revelation 20: 13–15, 13 “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”
- Matthew 25:46 “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal”.
- Matthew 5:30 “And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell”.
- Psalm 9:17 “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God”.
- 2 Thessalonians 1:9 “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”
- Matthew 13:50 “And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth”.
- Acts 2:27 “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption”.
- Mark 9:43 “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”
- Jude 1:7 “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire”.
- Proverbs 15:24 “The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath”.
- Proverbs 23:14 “Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell”.
- Matthew 13:42 “And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth”.
- Matthew 25:41 “And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth”.
- Revelation 19:20 ″And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone”.
- Proverbs 15:11 “Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men”?
- Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell”.
Hell is often referred to in other terms without using the exact words of Hell, but the distinction is clear that the writers were referring to physical location of Hell. The proper context can be seen in Jesus’ revelation of Paradise and Hell in proximity during the dispensation that predated his resurrection.
Luke 16:19–31 -Rich Man and Lazarus
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Despite attempts by some to argue that Alexander the Great introduced this term and that Pharisees adopted this term of Hell into Biblical translation, the argument is mute compared to actual biblical interpretation.
- 2 Peter 2:4 “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment”;
2 Peter 2:4 translates the word Tartarus which literrally means hell in Hebrew or Greek. There exist a theological argument, that Tartarus existed for fallen angels and not man.
However, Jesus made the statement in Matthew.
Matthew 25:41-42
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
This brings into perspective the argument of 2 Peters use of Tartarus, that Hell was never meant for man but for fallen angels, which the sin of man has made mankind entitled to the same judgment as fallen angels which is hell.
The significance of Christ sacrifice remains, salvation from the judgment of God, which is ultimately Hell and the Lake of Fire eternally.
Revelation 20:9-15
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
