One of the challenges with the church is that it vilifies this choice people make. But the reality, as far as God is concerned, homosexuality is a sin to God but not unlike any other sin in its category.
What this means is that their are degrees of sins, as their are degrees of rewards. Homosexuality is no more or less to God then adultery, cursing your parents,
God values sin differently, a lie is not equal to a murder and murder is not equal to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. If there are different values of sin, then are there also differences in rewards in Heaven? Does a person who has ministered salvation to millions get more credit than the person who only shared Christ with one person?
In (Leviticus 20:8-27), the Lord gives Moses some rules governing the children of Israel. In these verses, cursing your parents, adultery, incest among mothers, sons, fathers and daughters-in-law, homosexuality, communing with familiar spirits, sex with animals are all punishable by death.
Other sins like incest with a sister or seeing your sister naked, having sex with a woman during her menstrual cycle, sex with an aunt, sleeping with your brother’s wife, do not carry death as a penalty. But they are no less sins against God’s word. By these edicts by God we know that God Himself sees sin in degrees.
We should not confuse this with God’s grace or mercy, or our New Covenant with Christ. These aspects may affect the way God has chosen to deal with man, but that is separate and apart from God’s judgment and work with respect to the salvation of man, which is to say, God does not feel any differently about man’s sin or the degrees of it, He merely made accommodations with forgiveness, these are separate issues.
Jesus spoke of degrees of punishment:
“It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you” (v.22).
It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment than for thee” (v.24). (Matthew 10:14-15, 11:22-24)
“The same shall receive greater damnation” (Luke 20:46-47).
“Therefore, he that delivered me unto thee, hath the greater sin” (John 19:11; Matthew 26:24).
Both God and Jesus suggest there are degrees of sin and therefore there are different and personally customized punishments for the level of sin a person commits. Those in the tribulation passed up many chances to repent and did not turn away from their sin (Rev 9:20-21).
God separates those who worship the Beast and have his mark as having a greater torment in the Lake of Fire (Rev 14:11).
Heres the point, people have no right to condemn you for this part of your life, but it is what it is. You choose like anyone else, if the sin is worth the consequence. This sin will not cost you your salvation, but that does not mean there will be no consequence.
There are five unforgivable sins for man, but only four can cause the lose of salvation contrary to popular belief, suicide in “NOT” one of them.
- Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31-32; Luke 12:10)
- Accepting the mark of the Beast – (Rev. 14:9-10) (Salvation lost)
- Worshipping the image of the Beast (Rev 14:9-10) – (Salvation lost)
- Taking away from the Book of Revelation (Rev 22:19) – (Salvation lost and the only sin that can be done in this lifetime)
- Joining Satan’s Army after he is loosed from prison after the thousand year reign (Rev. 20:7-10). – (Salvation lost)
So in this regard the sin is an abomination to God, which means something disgusting to Him, but its not a mortal sin as it were.
As to reconciling your faith, it comes to this. The job of reproof or conviction of sin is the work of the Holy Spirit. Not some person, church or community. This is a personal thing between you and Lord alone. I would say to you, that as you get closer to the Lord in your walk, and you get more and more serious about that relationship, this matter will take care of itself.
There should be no condemnation from the cheap seats…
